Hard SaaS: How edge computing and bespoke networks will drive the next integration cycle

Traditional SaaS is done. The next wave of SaaS innovation is based on a new class of powerful application-specific, AI-capable computers and sensors that can gather and process data on the edge, make a split-second decision, and then contribute what it’s learned to the collective wisdom of the enterprise. The benefits are lower costs (no expensive data roundtrip to a central AI computer) and lightning-fast response.

For example, a self-driving car must be able to gather and act on local data in real-time, but also share this information with a central “brain” to raise the IQ of the entire system.
