Taylor Matthews & Brad Genser
Founders, Farther
Building the Digital Family Office for Modern Wealth
Taylor Matthews and Brad Genser co-founded Farther in 2019 with a vision to transform wealth management for a new generation. They recognized that while millennials were poised to inherit $25 trillion over the next decade, traditional wealth management services weren’t evolving to meet their needs. The industry was stuck with outdated systems from the 1970s that couldn’t properly address modern financial complexities like startup equity compensation and socially conscious investing.
Their complementary backgrounds made them the perfect team to tackle this challenge. Taylor brought experience from the leadership team at ForUsAll, where he helped grow the fintech retirement advisory firm from $25 million to nearly $1 billion in assets under management in just two years. Brad, who previously worked at Goldman Sachs, founded and led an AI team dedicated to Private Wealth management and brought deep technical expertise to the partnership.
Unlike traditional RIAs that typically grow by transferring established client bases, Farther started from scratch with no clients and no prior reputation. Their launch in April 2020 couldn’t have come at a more challenging time, but their technology-first approach to wealth management has since propelled them to manage over $5 billion in assets.
Millennials stand to inherit 25 trillion dollars over the next 10 years, while still in their peak earning years.
Taylor Matthews, Founder & CEO of Farther, discusses how these generational shifts require a modern approach to wealth management and how Farther is achieving this.
Matthews goes on to discuss why Farther’s platform (vs. legacy systems from the 70s) was built from the ground up to address today’s complex financial environment, including changes in compensation (startup equity vs. traditional salary) and socially conscious investing.
